![]() “I have never seen any group kill him that quickly. I played as Wulfgar, whose ultimate ability causes him to twirl around like a fiery tornado with a warhammer. Together, their attacks easily overwhelmed the trollish chef. And the dwarf Bruenor is a compact and defense-focused unit. ![]() Wulfgar is the hulking barbarian with a massive warhammer. The fast-paced Drizzt wields two swords in battle. And we burned through his sizable HP bar ludicrously fast. We’d all saved up our ultimate abilities for the boss fight. Playing as popular D&D heroes Drizzt Do'Urden, Bruenor Battlehammer, Catti-brie, and Wulfgar, we pummeled the chef with all our best attacks. (I don’t think he, the developer, or the other journalist in our group caught the Arrested Development reference, but I have no regrets.)Įven if the brutality was lacking in actual gore, the tone of the sequence is pretty gnarly for the often tame Dungeons & Dragons. A polite chuckle drifted through the team chat from DrLupo, the popular streaming personality who was in my party for a preview of Dark Alliance. “Now you got yourself a stew going,” I said nervously to break the tension. I have not played it but am going to pick it up when it goes on sale.I gasped when a giant Verbeeg chef hacked a dwarf’s body into pieces while singing a song, and then tossed the bits into an enormous pot. I also just found Armello which has a board game aspect to it as well, seems to be very similar. Incredibly fun, deep, HARD game that is fun with friends. Second Honorary mention to Barony for being one of the most fun rogue-like dungeon crawlers I have ever touched. Honorary mention to Legend of Grimrock (1 and 2) for being a badass dungeon crawler that is in no way similar but for some reason always is in my head when I play For the King. There are a lot of others that are similar to these, but aren't nearly as highly rated, so keep your eyes open on steam for sales or updates on them. I would only buy these on sale personally, but they are also on Nintendo Switch and are worth full price if you really need a game to play. The couple I have played that I really enjoy are Darkest Dungeon (turn based, dungeons, parties) as mentioned already and Slay the Spire (deck-building, tower climbing, seriously fun).ĭeep Sky Derelicts is pretty sweet, kinda a cross between the two games above and it is on sale right now ![]()
